Session 46-Baron's Birthday After Party

Post by jbvholli » Sun Nov 18, 2018 10:01 pm

The session opens to a couple of conversations with Baron V. regarding the events of the previous evening. It turns out that Lord Valen was planning an investigation of the Horn of Abbadon with the Abbess. The Forsaken made sure that the Baron would let us know ASAP when that began. The group went about securing more supplies, wagons and guards, especially with the attrition that has occurred. Rather than escort the group from the town, the group decided to wait a few days and explore the vicinity of the Horn further; opting to teleport back to the last fortified roadhouse when the caravan was due there.

It was decided that the Forsaken should move into the forest areas to possibly allow for a vendetta against possible elven settlements nearby the Horn. They bring their Hell Hounds and the nightmare, Carnithirius Rex. After some ordinary exploration, the party finds a bizarre buzzing and a blue glow at the base of one of the giant trees found there. Pretor goes forward to investigate. Human-shaped motes appear to coalesce, and disembodied voices encourage departure. The warlock makes saves against three effects, but only one is apparent-a collection of vines attempting to entangle him. He levitates with his new invocation, and Xander moves closer to check the blue glow. A magic effect causes his Halfling countenance to instantly sport a beard of feathers. Valak spurs his mount forward and finds nothing to attack. The party keeps an eye on the dancing lights, but get no effect from their cantrips. The opponent casts Confusion; Valak saves immediately, Xander shakes it off quickly, but the nightmare is enspelled into inaction. Amadeus and Picket weigh options; a Fireball is tossed into the magical maelstrom. Carnithirius is unharmed of course, but the keepers, who turn out to be a bunch of pixies, are incinerated by what can only be described as our shittiest fireball to date [16 pts]. The source of the blue glow is undimmed, but the buzzing has stopped. The glow emanates from a small pane that could not be moved. At this time the Forsaken had to leave it, but Amadeus did insert half of a magic item and an amazing amount of mayonnaise into it; the conjecture is that it is a Gate to another plane.
