Session 17: The Gate House, the Seal, oh yeah... Amadeus is finally back- Tales from the fall of Everard Keep.

When we last left our adventurers…
We started out in the keep proper. Two guards are running on the walls, those are the only enemies we currently see.
Xander cures Valeks wounds.
Varning cries out “The Seal, The Seal.” We continue to ignore him.
Guards burst forth from the keep doors. There are approximately 15-20 guards.
Preator fireballs just inside the keep door, smoking all of those poor frail guards. Wait nevermind fuck those guys.
Amadeus tumbles out of the smoking remains of the keep holding aloft potions of healing. Some rando guard follows him, Amadeus cups his balls to show that he is his thrall.
Picket runs up the stairs to the wall, and casts chill touch onto one of the 2 guards fumbling with the gate seals.
Xander heals Grimnock up to be a meat shield.
We start taking fire from the gatehouse from Varning with his bow.
Eventually Picket casts sleet storm on the top of the gatehouse to try and help his team members advance tword the doors.
The remaining guard completes his work on sealing the gate and runs off.
Xander heals himself as much as he can.
Grimnock falls again, Valek heals him.
We all run for the gatehouse door.
Preator takes a healing potion from Amadeus and uses it.
Tim falls to an arrow shot, and Valek raises him.
Picket falls to an arrow.
Xander crits Varning with a chilling touch, and incapacitates him.
Valek brings Picket back up.
We attack Varning with all we have.
Jimmy the guard takes an arrow while being screamed at by Varning “You traitor!”
Preator casts fly on Valek.
Picket uses his scroll of knock to blow open the barred door. A loud knock echos through the keep.
Valek flys up to the top of the Gatehouse, and sees a crouched Varning preparing to heal himself. Valek strikes Varning down and slices through his bow with the killing blow.
We all charge the door. Inside 7 guards and dwarves remain.
Tim falls to a crossbow bolt.
Amadeus heals Tim.
Picket casts sleep and accidently puts Grimnock to sleep along with 2 of the enemies.
Valek flys into the fray and attacks one of the remaining guards.
Grimnock is awoken by Tim.
We battle to the last of the defenders. They fall under our furry of spells and blades.
We raise the portcullis and disable the winch.
We lower the drawbridge and disable the winch.
We loot the bodies of the fallen.
As we search the keep we make our way to the chapel, as Valek enters we hear a Ball of light stay in 7 uniquie voices “Leave this place and repent.”
We leave and the glowing monster thing of goodness calls us bitches for leaving.
We continue to search out the keep while the horde approaches.
We break the clay talisman and after a minute Tiadora appears.
“You have done well my Lords” and there is a chest of platinum with a note, “Our lady smiles upon you, now rest and other commands will follow – A.
We gather around and teleport away. We are at North Keep. The area is destroyed.
Tiadora says “Zadaria succeded in her mission” and watches the people fleeing.
We teleport to the docks onto a barge manned by Tiadoras thralls.

Lords we are of death, destruction, and of evil.

Because we were pushing 10pm hard, Kyle did not have a chance to get everything that Tiadora said at the end.

Plus a slight retcon, only because we were rushing to pack up.

So here it is, retcon first:

While the party is in Havelyn's "office" clearing out the treasury, Amadeus slips into the adjacent room. If your Passive Perception is above 13, you noticed it. He wasn't trying to be especially sneaky or anything, he just kind of did it without drawing a bunch of attention to it.

A few rounds later (certainly less than a minute), he comes back out with a portrait (about 4'x3' framed, so it's not like its hidden or anything) of a beautiful human woman. The subject is easily one of the most beautiful human women that any of you have ever seen. For the sake of book keeping, the portrait and frame is worth 4-500 gp, and weighs probably 10 lbs. It is exquisitely painted, a real work of art.

When Tiadora teleports the party to the vantage point near Northreach, she says: "I have seen no evidence of any army gathering to meet the hoard. It seems Zadaria has also succeeded at her mission and has assassinated the commanders. Truly a great achievement."

She continued: "Making matter worse for the Lake States, small bands of creatures unaligned with Sacarac approach the breach, eager to take advantage of the chaos. How could these beasts know already about this break in the North Wall? Someone must have told them. Probably best to leave. This region is about to become very dangerous."

She teleports the party to the docks on Strelz Lake. Sagentown is in pandemonium. While the hoard is not in the town just yet, you know that it won't take them long to break the seals of Everard Tower. And the townspeople know it too...

Tiadora says: "This will not be enough. Everard may be broken but the Lake States are still strong. Soon word will reach the south. The Lake States will marshal their armies and meet Sacarac of the field and it will be far too close to a fair fight.

"We must do something about that."

She turns and gestures to a shallow bottom lake barge and says: "Come, my Lords, your ship awaits. Try not to burn this one."

"Lords." She called you Lords. And Lords you are. Lords of death and destruction. Lords of Evil. Do you remember Brandermill? Do you remember being held down and branded like animals? How far have you come and how long is the journey before you? Tiadora is right. This is only your first steps along the Way of the Wicked.

As the boat prepares to cast off, you see a fire begin to engulf Everard Tower. The blood colored moon shines down as if in approval.

Thus ends the first book in the story of the Forsaken.
