could not wait any longer. The Forsaken must be dealt with. He knew who they were. The Inquisitor had told him who had occupied the Horn of Abaddon. He knew from his grandfather’s journals what was there. He knew what they were doing because Avenar had answered the Commune rituals.

He gathered his banner men and told them his plans. They agreed to join him, as their fathers had answered the call of Hammerhall for generations. When his uncle arrived with reinforcements he also brought one of the Sword of Avenar. Saget had been sent by Putin himself to assist with his mission. Buddy had been his friend since childhood, he wouldn’t be left behind. Stickman would follow him into Hell if that was his course. Together they made an oath to bring justice to the Forsaken.

The Forsaken were brazen. They attacked the city with abandon. First the attack on the inn across from the Abbey. They had allies that they had turned against for reasons still unclear to him. Then the attack on the Baron. Valin knew that Vandermir had many secrets, and had long suspected him of him having criminal interests. But why the Forsaken would be involved in the destruction of his manor and apparent death he had no idea.

He sought the counsel of the Wood Elves. They came in secret to Hammerhall because he knew the Forsaken keeps spies in Everett. They told him what they had learned when they assaulted the Horn. They advised him to hold off his own attack, and join them in their own mission of revenge. He knew that he couldn’t wait. The Silver Seal would be broken before then.

The Wood Elves were disappointed, but agreed to transport the Knights Errant north. They camped not far from the Demon’s Maw, and there the knights listened intently to the latest intelligence the elves had gathered.

They rose before dawn, and repeated their oath. The elves escorted them about a mile out and wished them well.
