Tabura
It is said that the walls of Tabura have stood for longer than the Silverwood, and that just may be true. It served as a fortress of the Knights Oracle before the Battle of Griffon Heights. It was ancient even then.
After the Battle of Griffon Heights, the Dragons and their allies declared what was then called the Valley of the Oracle -including Tabura- to be off limits. Even after they lifted the ban, the area was shunned by most creatures.
Tabura sat empty for almost 700 years. It has only been in the last 50 years that it has started becoming inhabited again. The Valley Rangers have been using it as a shelter/rendezvous point for hundreds of years.
The fortress is in very good repair despite being empty for such a long time. It is as structurally sound as it has ever been. There is a lot of vegetation growing around Tabura, though the fortress is not overgrown.
A very small number of people live permanently in the old fort. There is a small inn and several shops. Goya’s opened up a small branch here a few years ago.
There are usually 20-30 temporary residents and assorted folks passing through at any time. There are plenty of places to squat.
Common knowledge/rumors (you decide!)-
The Wardens started using Tabura as a rendezvous well before the Dragons lifted their ban. They’ve been using it ever since.
The dungeons of Tabura have been sealed by the Dragons for some reason.
Scrying/divination type magic doesn’t work so well in and around the fortress. Even the most powerful such spells yield spotty results at best.
The Wardens aren’t the only faction that has a permanent presence in Tabura. The Walkers do too.
There have been reports of people seeing apparitions on the walls and towers that resemble warriors wearing strange armor.
The construction of Tabura is very unusual. It was not made by dwarf, human or elf. It resembles the fortress-city of Bertrand, in the Shieldlands. As for which is older, who knows?

Re: Tabura
A few years ago, the city of Kald sent a small company of soldiers to begin occupying Tabura on a permanent basis. The monstrous denizens of Griffon Heights have been pushing into the Valley of the Oracle for a while, so the city decided head them off at the pass. The garrison has been welcomed by the rest of the Free Cities.
Captain Mav- high elf- leads the garrison. He can be found just about anywhere around the keep at just about anytime. He is well liked by the soldiers and inhabitants of the keep.
There are about 50 soldiers in the garrison, mixed elf and human (75/25). There are maybe a dozen or so Valley Rangers in the keep at any time. While they are not elite, they are seasoned soldiers with good leadership and training. Well supplied and supported too!
The below will make more sense soon:
1 Outer Gatehouse- usually manned by the LT on duty and 3-4 regulars. They are typically joined by a few Valley Rangers. They are pretty cordial. Day- Lt. Peck, Night- Lt. Wilcox.
2 Barn/Stables- Festus Rickson keeps the stables running like a top with his son Navie and daughter Roanie.
3 Apartments/shop stalls- the apartments here are for the more long term of the temporary residents of the keep. There are six 20’x20’ studio style apartments in this two story building. Lawrence Greegrum - human- rents five of them out at 5gp/week/each. They are pretty comfortable in spite of their small size. Greegrum puts most of the money he makes back into the building. There is a common toilet on each floor. Greegrum also rents out stalls to traveling peddlers.
4 Smithy- Smith Johanna Kierstone and her husband Andresos- dwarves- they are pretty busy with garrison work, but she will fit it in somehow…
5 Goya’s- really no more than a convenience store that you might find in a gas station in the middle of nowhere instead of the Walmartesque stores found elsewhere. Most standard equipment can be found here, just not very much of it. No armor or weapons are found here. It is managed by Andrea Toyou - gnome. She can order anything though, via sending stones. Guaranteed three day delivery, no extra charge!
6 Trader’s Shop- the dwarf merchant Barbaro is known to be a fair dealer. He’s not too keen on the new Goya’s, despite its very limited stock. “Won’t be long, they’ll be buying the block.”
7 Bank- Actually a storefront for an elven merchant house (House Jerraneel) that specializes in jewelry made from the gems and precious metals mined by the dwarves of Griffon Heights. Beanie Lettarine - high elf- is the manager. He will rent out vault space if asked.
8 Inn- The Sleepy Dragon
9 Tavern- The Thirsty Dragon
Run by a family of halflings. Uncludian “Unk” Fairweather, his wife Clarabelle, their two daughters and their husbands and three kids total, plus a couple of cousins.
The signs for each depict a rather happy looking copper dragon, one tilting back a large tankard, the other snuggled down in a very cozy looking bed. Both serve food, though the Sleepy Dragon has a fuller menu. The Thirsty Dragon is really the only entertainment in the keep. It’s pretty good, but most of the nights are early.
10 Guild House- Pullus Gumbo is typically here or nearby. The door is marked by the double-headed eagle of the Wardens.
11 Temple of Dian Cecht- Father Fitzpatrick has two acolytes that help him. He will offer space for a shrine to any non-evil god if needed.
12 Inner Gatehouse- usually manned by 2-3 regulars, sometimes a couple of rangers too. They will ask any non soldier or ranger about their business before admitting them to the inner bailey.
13 Inner Bailey- there are a few soldiers and rangers found here pretty much all of the time. There is a Circle here.
14 Fortress- serves as the barracks and offices of the garrison. There is always a guard on duty at the door. Visitors are rarely allowed.
